A Brief History
FLEURIOT is an old noble French family name that can be traced back to 1148 to René Fleuriot, who served as the Maire de Palais, for Conan III, Duke of Brittany (1095 - 1148) In the 14th century, a member of this family migrated to the Duchy of Anjou, and then onto Nantes. The family were then high officials in the King’s mint in both cities. During this time they possessed many noble fiefs in the Nantes area. The owners of these fiefs had powers of justice and were part of the administration of the French kingdom. Following a tradition received from the Romans, many of these chateaux grew their vineyard for their own consumption. This is the tradition in which de Fleuriot wine is being crafted, small batches of good quality wine for you to enjoy at the dinner table, as if you were part of our family and its history.
The Château
The title in the family name comes from the Château de la Colinière. It was the old family castle of nobleman, Jean Pierre Fleuriot, Écuyer, Seigneur de la Colinière, Chevalier de Saint-Louis. It is located in the village of Champtoceaux, in the Maine-et-Loire region of France. It was inherited by Jean Pierre, through his mother Lady Gilette de Ruays in 1731. Jean Pierre eventually sold all his possessions in France and migrated to the island of Isle-de-France (Mauritius) to start a new venture in the Southern Hemisphere. Today, his legacy can still be found in the names of his descendants. The "de Fleuriot de la Colinière" family, reside all over the world, including Mauritius, Australia, Canada and South Africa.
